The DS8178 Wireless Code Reader is more than just a conventional 2D imager. This device has set a new standard for decoding 1D and 2D codes. The DS8100 Series is equipped with 800 MHz microprocessors and a high-resolution area imager to be capable of reading high density codes (codes with high data content in a relatively small area) as well as codes displayed on low backlighted screens as a standard.

Available exclusively in Zebra Technologies devices PRZM Intelligent Imaging technology sets a new standard in imaging performance. Low quality barcodes are instantly converted into usable images, accelerating the decoding process. After that PRZM process takes over some of the processing typically done by a decoder to reduce power consumption, extend battery life and to boost reading speed. Thanks to the proprietary intelligent PRZM imaging technology the device is also able to decodes damaged, faded or dirty barcodes quickly and efficiently at a distance of up to 61 cm.

The use of wireless reader in the cash register allows to scan items straight from the shopping trolley without laying them on the cashier belt. Barcode aiming in this situation has been made much easier by the bright LED point light.

The intelligent Power Precision+ 2500 mAh battery that powers the device provides enough power for continuous scanning throughout the shift and, if you forgot to charge the reader batteries overnight, you can quickly and easily check the battery status to decide whether replace it or not.

In addition, the DS8100 series supports Digimarc's digital watermark technology, where the invisible to the bare eye barcodes are applied to all sides of the packaging. Cashiers no longer have to search for the barcode on the packaging and place it in the field of view of the reader. That remarkably speeds up the scanning process.

The device is protected by the IP42 certificate and high quality, lightweight plastic casing which is resistant to 50 drops to concrete from a height of 1.8 m. The shape of the housing was designed to maximize the ergonomics and to reduce user’s fatigue - even when the device is being used for many hours every day.
